Published quarterly, Disegno is an independent magazine dedicated to in-depth reporting on architecture, design and fashion.
What grabbed us about this issue...
Issue 40 opens with Nipa Doshi’s kaavad of stories. We enjoyed how it grounds the issue in a making tradition that sits well outside the usual design canon. If you’re interested in design and social justice, the limitations of carceral furniture design is the feature to find. It’s an angle on incarceration that most publications wouldn’t think to take. We also kept coming back to Behalf Studio’s platform to free Vietnam of unexploded ordnance. It makes a serious humanitarian case through the lens of design without softening either side of it.
Who’s Disegno for?
Disegno is one for when you want design writing that treats the subject as a political and cultural force. Each issue moves between architecture, fashion and design without privileging one field over another. The writing is long-form and independent. This would suit you if you’re already engaged with design culture and want criticism that keeps pace with that thinking. Think of it as a quarterly journal of design ideas rather than a showcase. It’s one to reach for when you want to feel properly inside the debate.
