Gutter

Gutter No. 28

Published twice a year, Gutter is an award-winning printed journal for exceptional new writing from contributors living in Scotland and around the world.

What grabbed us about this issue…

Issue 28 opens with new fiction from Shane Strachan and Alexandra Ye and we enjoyed how the range of voices gives the prose section an unpredictable quality. The interview with Rodge Glass on the unique challenges of writing biographies is worth seeking out. It’s a more technically specific conversation than the usual writer profile. If you’re interested in the Alasdair Gray Archive, the first instalment of creative commissions responding directly to it gives the issue something genuinely distinctive alongside the new writing.

Who’s Gutter for?

Gutteris to reach for when you’re looking for a mix of traditional literary fiction, genre fiction, poetry, and personal essays in one sitting. It’s proudly Scottish, with diverse content and contributors. Not all pieces are conventional, it would suit you if you like to step out of your comfort zone and delve into the unexpected.
